Conservation and Craft: A Taste of Africa

The wait is finally over. The three-episode series from Rockwood Conservation, A Taste of Africa, is now live and streaming across major platforms. Filmed on location at Rockwood, this project goes beyond the hunt to look at the massive effort required to protect some of the most vulnerable species on the planet. The series reaches a global audience, telling the story of conservation in a way that is both raw and necessary. We are proud to see the team at Rockwood using Spartan products to help them achieve their goals in the field.

The Mission at Rockwood Conservation

Rockwood is not your typical destination. It is a high stakes environment dedicated to the protection of the rhino and the delicate balance of the South African ecosystem. The series follows the Rockwood team as they navigate the complexities of wildlife management and the physical demands of the bush. Since its debut, the project has already seen over 214,000 plays on Make Ready TV, showing a deep interest in how ethical hunting and conservation work hand in hand. It is an honest look at the hard work, the long nights, and the specialized knowledge required to keep these landscapes thriving for the next generation.

Stability in the African Bush

Success in the thick cover of the South African bush requires gear that is both fast and quiet. Throughout the series, the Rockwood team relied on our products to provide stability when the terrain was unpredictable. Both the Javelin Pro Hunt Tac and Springbok range was a staple for many of the encounters, allowing for instant deployment in the red dust and scrub. Because these hunts often involve long miles on foot in the heat, the lightweight carbon fiber construction was essential. Using the MagnaSwitch™ spigot meant the rifles stayed clean and easy to carry on a sling until the exact moment a stable shooting platform was needed.

Tools for the Protection of Species

Technical gear plays a vital role in the daily operations of a place like Rockwood. If it was glassing for miles across the plains or settling in for a precision shot, the modularity of the Spartan kit was showing it full capabilities. The team utilized the Spartan system to pick apart the dense vegetation and monitor animal movement with total stability. The ability to swap between optics and rifles using the same magnetic connection kept the workflow simple and effective. When the mission is as important as rhino conservation, you need equipment that performs without question so you can stay focused on the task at hand.
