Mountains, Mentorship, and the Pyrenees

Mountains, Mentorship, and the Pyrenees

Our latest Spartan film from the high country of the Pyrenees is now live.

Inviting KC Eusebio, the world renowned speed shooter, to join Rob Gearing, leaving the range behind to be guided by Oscar from Spain Hunting Expeditions in search of Ibex and Chamois.

High Altitude, Higher Lessons

Swapping a race tuned pistol for a mountain rifle is a serious shift. KC has to deal with steep angles, thin air, and swirling wind, learning to slow down, build solid positions, and lean on Oscar’s experience in real mountain country. Early opportunities show just how unforgiving that environment can be, and the missed shots become honest, humbling moments that underline the gap between shooting on the range and lining up on an animal.

Stability in a Vertical World

Throughout the hunt, the team relies on Spartan’s ultralight carbon fiber system to stay fast and light on the climb, then stay solid when a shooting chance appears. One standout moment shows Mr G shooting with an Ascent tripod making the most of the M14 thread, using two Ascent legs forward and a Pro Hunt Tac leg at the rear toward him to create a stable platform that still allows quick adjustment. Even with that smart setup, the mountain wins and the shot does not land, a humbling reminder that nothing is guaranteed up there.

KC’s journey with the rifle is different. Over the course of the film he takes two key shots using two different supports: one off the Pro Hunt Tac and another off the Ascent tripod. Both times he draws on what he has learned in the hills, builds a strong position, and makes his shots count. Seeing him connect from two very different platforms shows how quickly a true professional can adapt when the fundamentals and the right tools come together.

Redemption on the Mountain

There are no shortcuts after a miss, only more glassing, more climbing, and more careful decision making. By the end, the story is about much more than Ibex and Chamois. It is about mentorship from Oscar, honest misses from Mr G, KC’s growth with the rifle, and the quiet satisfaction of finally putting everything together on a hard mountain hunt.
