Taking ten first time shooters into the New Zealand backcountry is a major milestone. At Ngamatea Station, the goal was to give these new hunters the skills and confidence to pursue Sika deer. Willie Duley joined the team to mentor the shooters, focusing on more than just shooting and hunting. This trip was about breaking down barriers and introducing a new generation of women to the high country.
A Supportive Start in Sika Country
Sika deer are notoriously difficult to hunt because they are alert and quick to vanish. For many in this group, it was their first time handling a rifle in a wild scenario. Willie Duley provided essential mentorship by teaching the women how to move quietly through the bush and scoping out the shot. This shared journey created a space where everyone felt comfortable pushing their limits. The focus remained on animal behavior and the ethics of a clean shot.
Achieving Steady Shots with Ease
Managing a rifle can be intimidating for a beginner. Traditional bipods are often heavy and make a rifle feel unbalanced during a long stalk. The women used the Javelin Pro Hunt Tac and the Springbok Bipod to stay mobile and effective. Both of these systems utilize our MagnaSwitch™ Technology. When the moment arrived, the magnetic connection provided immediate stability without the permanent weight of a traditional setup.
Technical Gear for Every Hunter
The success of this hunt proved that lightweight and modular gear levels the playing field. Having the right tools makes the mountains accessible to everyone regardless of their experience level. The Javelin Pro Hunt Tac provided a fast platform for prone shots, while the Springbok Bipod allows for sitting and kneeling positions to clear the thick scrub. By using this carbon fiber equipment, these women were able to focus on the hunt instead of struggling with their kit. It is about having the confidence to go further and knowing your gear will perform when it counts.
